Amelia McMahon

Born and raised along the shores of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Amelia McMahon made her way to Montreal in 1999 where she recieved a Bachelor of Music at McGill University. Enchanted by the city, she now calls Montreal home.

As a performing artist, Amelia has graced many local and international stages as a soloist and chorister in a diverse array of musical styles and settings. A jazz singer first and foremost, she has also appeared with David Benoit, Randy Bachman, Malajube, Courtney Wing, and the MSO among others. She directs and sings with Ardesco, a professional a cappella group specializing in their own arrangements of soul and jazz music. She also sings with Concerto Della Donna, an award winning women's chamber choir directed by Iwan Edwards.

As a teacher, Amelia passes the joy of singing to her students at the McGill Conservatory, the KoSA Academy, in her private studio, and through the group workshops she leads. During 2006-07, Amelia joined the jazz faculty at McGill University as interim director of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

As a recording artist, Amelia's voice can be heard on seven albums to date including Ranee Lee's Juno nominated "Maple Groove and Joel Miller's critically acclaimed album, "Tantramar", released November, 2007.

Amelia McMahon est née et a grandi près de la côte de la Baie de Fundy en Nouvelle Écosse. Elle est arrivée à Montréal, qu'elle considère maintenant comme chez elle, en 1999 pour poursuivre un Baccalauréat en musique à l'Université McGill.

Artiste dramatique, Amelia a performé sur plusieurs scènes locales et internationales comme soloiste et choriste et dans plusieurs styles de musique. Une chanteuse de jazz premièrement, elle a aussi joué avec David Benoit, Randy Bachman, Malajube, Courtney Wing, et l'OSM, entre autres. Elle dirige et chante avec Ardesco, un groupe a cappella reconnu ici et à l'étranger qui se spécialise dans sa propre adaptation de la musique soul et jazz. Ella chante aussi avec Concerto Della Donna, un choeur des femmes dirigé par Iwan Edwards.

En Tant qu'enseignante, Amelia transmet la joie du chant à ses élèves au Conservatoire de McGill, l'Académie KoSA et à son studio privé. Elle est devenue membre de la Faculté de jazz à l'Université McGill en 2006-07 quand elle a pris la poste de directrice du Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

On peut entendre Amelia sur sept albums à date, notamment "Maple Groove" de Ranee Lee, qui était nommé pour un prix Juno, et plus récemment sur l'album "Tantramar" de Joel Miller, salué par la critique lors de sa sortie en novembre 2007.
